Fellowship
Surgical Critical Care Fellowship: The departments of Surgery and Emergency Medicine have developed a fellowship training pathway for Emergency Medicine Physicians in Surgical Critical Care. This is an ACGME accredited two year program that will prepare the participant for subspecialty certification in Surgical Critical Care. Fellows will rotate through SICU, CTICU, Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Anesthesia, and Resuscitation and Critical Care Medicine. In addition to preparing fellows for Surgical Critical Care certification, it is expected clinical, academic, and/or research careers in the Resuscitation and Critical Care Medicine.
Stony Brook University Hospital is the major academic affiliate hospital for Stony Brook University School of Medicine in Long Island, New York. As the major referral hospital for Eastern Long Island we see a tremendous case mix of complex medical, trauma, surgical and surgical subspecialty critical care. We are currently a regional Trauma and Burn Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Cardiac Care Center with Cardiac Catheterization and ECMO capabilities. Additionally, we have an active research program with extensive focus on Cardiac Arrest and Resuscitation, Burn Care, and Neurointerventional therapies.
